CORE VALUES
The Internal Medicine Group has been providing medical care to Lawrence area residents since 1979. After completion of their residency training, Dr. Pees and Dr. Schnose moved to Lawrence, “hung out their shingle,” and began practice in a small office at 901 Kentucky.
By 1982, this office was too small and the practice was moved to the Lawrence Medical Plaza building, which had just been constructed at 6th and Maine. In 1983, after completing his service in the United States Air Force, Dr. Sosinski joined the practice. For a short while in the mid-80’s, the practice was affectionately referred to as "that vegetable group”—snow-peas and zucchini.
The practice again outgrew its available space and New Years Day of 1990 was spent moving charts and exam tables to a building at 2200 Harvard Road. Dr. King joined the group in 1992 as our first internal medicine sub-specialist, focusing her practice in gastroenterology. Dr. Stuever joined the group in 1993 and further strengthened our general internal medicine strength. From 1994 until 2000, Dr. Karil Bellah practiced cardiology with The Internal Medicine Group. In 1996, Dr. Penn began his practice of infectious disease with the group.
Except for a brief partnership with Columbia / HCA from 1995─2000, The Internal Medicine Group has remained an independent medical practice owned solely by the physician members. We have found that this structure allows for more patient-focused decision-making.
Over Labor Day of 2005 we moved the practice to our new expanded facility at 4525 West 6th Street. With our new building we look forward to adding new physicians and services.
