Q: What if I need to cancel my appointment?

A: We would appreciate at least 24-hours' notice if you are unable to keep your appointment. Please call (785) 843-5160.

Q: What insurance do you accept?

A: We accept most insurance including several HMOs, PPOs, POS, Medicare assignment, and Medicaid. If you are coming to our office for the first time, we will need to see your insurance card(s) and current driver's license. We request those at each visit. You will be expected to pay your deductible and / or co-payment at the time of service.

Q: What is an internist?

A: An internist is a physician with specialty training to allow for treatment and diagnosis of a wide variety of diseases that occur in adults. Of all primary care physicians, "doctors of internal medicine" are unique in our focus on adult medicine. In today's complex world, we aim to take care of our patients for life—in the office, during hospitalization, intensive care, in-care home settings, and at the end of life.

Q: What is a nurse practitioner?

A: A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse (RN) who has a master's degree in nursing and two years of advanced clinical training in a health care specialty area. Nurse practitioners work under the rules and regulations of the Nurse Practitioners Act of the state in which they work. Most nurse practitioners are also board certified in their specialty area. They are recognized as expert health care providers. Nurse practitioners deliver individualized care, focusing not only on the health problem, but also the effect of the problem on patients and their families.

Q: Do you provide lab testing?

A: We provide comprehensive laboratory services as well as x-ray testing within the office for convenience and quality if your insurance company permits. Please check your insurance coverage to find out if there are restrictions on where and who can draw your blood and do the testing.

Q: How will I be notified of test results?

A: We will notify you by telephone or by mail within 10 days. Abnormal tests and some normal tests, which have more complex interpretations, may require an office visit to discuss in more detail. If you do not hear from us regarding a test result you had done, please call us.

Q: Why, at times, do folks that arrived after me get called back before me?

A: We try to follow our appointment schedules and not the order of the sign-ins. We also run multiple schedules for each doctor.

Q: When is the best time to discuss a referral to a specialist or for a second opinion?

A: The best time to discuss a referral is at your office visit. Many insurance companies require referrals to be to specific providers, as well as requiring completion of additional paperwork or phone calls to authorize the referral. We also like to provide the referral physician with your history and previous testing, or treatments pertinent to the referral, in order to coordinate your care.

Q: How do I get a refill on my medication?

A: All medications are generally refilled at the time of your office visit. If you need a refill before your next office visit, please call our office or your pharmacist (who will notify us) and allow 48 hours for your medication to be refilled. Always specify the name of the medication, the amount you need (e.g. 30 days, 90 days), the number where you can be reached, and the name of your pharmacy. WE WILL NOT FILL OR CALL IN ANY NARCOTIC MEDICATIONS AFTER REGULAR OFFICE HOURS.

Q: Should I bring my medications with me to my office visit?

A: YES. The physician or nurse practitioner will want to confirm the medications you are taking.
