Doctors for Adults
Physicians who specialize in the field of internal medicine are known as "internists."
Internists are skilled in diagnosis and management of complex disorders of the body and in disease prevention.
An internist has specialty training to allow for treatment and diagnosis of a wide variety of diseases that occur in adults. "Doctors of internal medicine" are unique in our focus on adult medicine.
Internists may be either generalist or specialists. General internists function as primary care physicians and in today's complex world, aim to take care of our patients for life—in the office, during hospitalization, intensive care, in-care home settings, and at the end of life.
Within the field of internal medicine are nine recognized subspecialties: Cardiology (heart), endocrinology (glands), gastroenterology (digestive tract and liver), hematology (blood and blood-forming tissues), infectious disease (infections), nephrology (kidneys), oncology (cancers), pulmonology (lungs), and rheumatology (arthritis and connective tissue).
Bone Densitometry
Bone density testing is a non-invasive test, which uses very small amounts of x-ray to accurately measure the mineral (Calcium) content of your bone. The test is used to diagnose osteoporosis and determine your risk for osteoporosis. It is also useful in determining a patient's response to osteoporosis therapy. The Internal Medicine Group uses a state of the art Hologic DEXA scanner
The National Osteoporosis Foundation recommends bone density scans for:
The Office Infusion Center is a service provided to The Internal Medicine Group's patients and patients referred to us by their primary physicians. We provide intravenous therapy for patients in a comfortable office environment, as well as teach patients to self-administer some medications at home.
Our in-office laboratory provides accurate quality lab results and reporting of many of the most commonly ordered lab tests including cholesterol and lipid panels, thyroid function testing, complete blood counts, PT / INR for anti-coagulation monitoring, Hb A1C and micro-abumin measurements for diabetes, PSA, and chemistry profiles.
Diagnostic Testing
The Internal Medicine Group has the capability to do a wide range of diagnostic studies, which assist us in the accurate diagnosis of several symptoms and diseases. Some of these studies include:
